Choosing Your Wedding Makeup

When planning your dream wedding, you think of every little detail down to the color of the silverware. As time passes, you book your venue, florist, caterer, and other vendors. Throughout booking and planning, you should be creating an overall theme and style to your big day that should carry out with each vendor. Your makeup should be no different! Here are some things to consider:

1- Define a Theme: As mentioned above, you should think about what your whole wedding style and theme are. If you’re unsure of this, take a step back and work with a planner or designer to help! Once you have this set, think about what makeup looks might work. Are you having a Halloween themed wedding? Maybe country chic? Or perhaps a Tuscany themed one? Those looks can all differ quite a bit. What colors and looks will work with what you’re conveying? Your makeup should complement the event and your style. This is also something to discuss with your makeup artist during your trial run. I always ask questions like this to help narrow down an appropriate look.

2- Picture Searching: Pinterest has been perhaps one of the best inventions of all time (let’s be real). Use it to your advantage, and use it wisely. Sure, you can just search “wedding makeup” and tons of photos will come up. Take it one step further and search “brunette wedding makeup” or “soft/ romantic wedding makeup”. This searching tool will help narrow your results down to better fit your style and appearance. P.S.- always bring these photos to your trial run so your makeup artist can see them! P.P.S.- remember that Pinterest is great for getting overall ideas, but the majority of the photos you’ll see are heavily re-touched or done on a model with perfect baby-smooth skin; don’t expect to look exactly like a picture

3- Consult your Artist: Once you’ve secured your makeup artist, schedule at least one trial run before your big day. Not only is it a great chance to get to know them, but they will be able to offer advice of what colors/ textures will work well with your particular face. Often enough, I will have a blonde/ blue eyed bride show me a picture of Kim K with bold, heavy makeup on, and they say, “I want to look just like this”. Remember, you should look like YOU and FEEL like you. Plus, if you are a pale blonde, that makeup is going to look drastically different on you versus Kim K.

4- Pictures are Forever: Lastly, remember that pictures are forever! You spend a lot of money on a professional photographer in order to capture those memories; be sure to look your best! Makeup trends come and go all the time in the beauty world. Before deciding on a glitter cut-crease with huge winged eyeliner, think to yourself, “will this still look good fifteen years from now?”. If that seems questionable, perhaps think of toning it down to a more classic bridal look. Buy hey, if you like bold- go for it! As an artist, I’m here to give you what you want, but also to consult and guide you to your dream look.
