The Reality of Pinterest & Insta "Glam" Makeup

Let's face it, we've ALL gone on Pinterest or Instagram and searched "bridal makeup looks"! What comes up is usually flawless skin with no pores, thin women with perfect features, large eyes, full lips, and whiter than white teeth. Maybe some sparkly cut creases or huge smokey eye looks, too. While these images are no doubt beautiful, they are also HEAVILY edited and filtered.

Not only are they edited and filtered, but the provide every bride to be a false sense of reality. Many women think that with makeup, they will magically look JUST like that Pinterest picture bride.

In reality, every single human being has: Pores, fine lines, maybe some wrinkles, a crook in their nose, or maybe even some excess facial hair or peach fuzz. These are all NORMAL things and the beauty industry needs to normalize them. Sure, there's nothing wrong with your photographer blurring out a stubborn pimple or red spot, but it is also okay to have them!

A lot of the bridal makeup looks you see on Instagram and Pinterest are also looks that are super pretty in the photo, but in reality would not last more than a couple of hours. On your wedding day, you are typically getting ready in the morning, crying a bit, hugging a lot, kissing TONS, dancing, sweating, drinking, etc. Those looks would end up all over your face and your dress by hour 3!

So, it's 100% okay to find inspirational photos on these platforms, but just go in with the knowledge that makeup won't make you skinnier, erase your pores, make your eyes or lips bigger, or get rid of texture or acne on your face (and I promise, those models have these things, too- they're just edited out!). If there is something you really want to change before your wedding, filler, Botox, teeth whitening, facials, waxing, spray tans are all excellent options!

From there, your artist should be able to create and customize a look that fits your eye shape, face shape, skin conditions / tone, etc. based on the photos and styles you like.

Another great option for inspirational photos is looking through your artists portfolio! These will be more realistic bridal looks & you know the artist can create them on REAL women like yourself.

Happy searching & enjoy the process!

Hillary
